Seto, Aichi Japan, Porcelain
Damage: Chip (2.2 cm²), Ware (24 cm), Nyū (12 cm)
Finish: Kuroiro-urushi (Black Urushi)
From @ryo_clay’s Picture Frame series, designed so food can be enjoyed as if painting within a frame. Its matte surface, with sparkling magnesite particles, is especially distinctive.
This plate came to me from @naito_taichi, who had also invited me to dinner with it (a dinner as beautiful as a painting).
Because staining spread from the break, I cut away a larger section and rebuilt the loss. The hardest part was aligning the layers where the chip met both a crack (ware) and a fine fissure (nyū).
For now, I’ve finished it in black urushi for a bold contrast, though I’m still considering the final refinement.
